The Big Play Out was a vibrant sports event designed for our tamariki and rangatahi, providing an incredible opportunity to connect with our young care community while promoting an active lifestyle through fun sports activities.

Thanks to the generous sponsorship from Sports Hawkes Bay, every young person who attended the event received a sport pack goodie bag, complete with a sports ball to take home. This thoughtful gesture not only encouraged ongoing physical activity but also helped foster a sense of connection and support for our young people’s hauora.

The event was attended by tamariki and rangatahi ages 8 and up who were eager to engage in various sports activities. This initiative was inspired and shaped by feedback from our VOYCE Think Tank youth participation event held earlier this year, ensuring it resonated with the interests and needs of our young attendees.

A highlight of the day was seeing the joy and enthusiasm on the faces of our participants. One young person shared their excitement with our staff, saying, “It was mean – can’t wait to play with my netball at home.”
