VOYCE Summit 2023

Young Voices Rising: From Care to Influence

Wednesday 30th August 2023

9.30am to 4.30pm

Calling all care experienced young people!

Whether you’re new to VOYCE or already connected with us, we’d love you to join us at this awesome free pre-election event to:

  • workshop the 6 Promises priorities for the care community
  • deliver our 6 Promises petition to Parliament
  • empower young people to have a say in the election

In 2020, we called on the State to uphold the most basic rights for children and young people in their care.  These promises reflect the pledge New Zealand made when we signed up to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCROC) 30 years ago. Children and Young people want to know why these commitments have not been upheld and they need action now!

  1. You promised to take care of me and make sure I have the things I need
  2. You promised to make sure I have safety and stability in my life
  3. You promised to help me with my education goals and dreams
  4. You promised to support me with healthcare when I need it
  5. You promised to listen and include me when decisions are made about me
  6. You promised to help me feel confident in who I am, and learn about my whakapapa, culture and language

VOYCE – Whakarongo Mai is amplifying the voices of care experienced rangatahi and tamariki across the nation who are saying clearly, boldy, and unapologetically, “You Promised… Now Deliver!”

Our fab host, Dietrich Soakai, and young leaders will help to workshop the priority issues for the care community and share these with our allies and guests from across the care sector. We’ll then hīkoi to the steps of Parliament to present our petition, before returning to our venue for an afternoon of activation and planning a way forward.

Registrations will close on 23rd August, or sooner if we reach capacity!

All friends, allies and supporters are encouraged to join us for the hīkoi at 12.30pm
