Recently, the VOYCE – Whakarongo Mai Coast Team hosted a ‘Think Tank’ tūhono so that tamariki and rangatahi had the chance to share what they want to see from VOYCE tūhono in their rohe. This event was hosted in Heretaunga (Hastings) and was all about getting ideas from the young people. Thanks to a koha from the Hastings District Council, VOYCE was able to provide an awesome day out for young people in the care community.
After some awesome kōrero, and ideas were shared, everyone enjoyed a few games of bowling. This was really fun and enjoyed by the ten care experienced young people who came along to strike up some ideas, and then strike some pins! The young people who attended were aged between 10 years old and 16 years old and their whaakaro will help in shaping the regions tūhono plans for 2024.
One of the highlights of the tūhono were seeing young people reconnect with one another again after not seeing each other for a number of years. These two young people were able to share phone numbers with each other, and promised to give each other a text when they got home. For young people in care, connection to their community is super important, so this was awesome to see a reconnection happen at a VOYCE tūhono!
