The VOYCE Tamaki team set out to have a tuhono connecting our 6-12yr old tamariki as part of our outreach – 24 tamariki and caregivers new to the VOYCE Kaupapa attended our Matariki event which took part at the Stardome, Cornwall park.

The tamariki were able to learn about Matariki by starting off in a galactic light show in the dome followed up a physics lesson of DIY rockets.

To end off the day, we had a picnic in the park and the team set up a Matariki star hunt where a few lucky people were able to receive some extra goodies.

By the end of the day, tamariki were able to recite the Matariki stars, made a new friend and get to know about VOYCE.

Whānau care is where a child is being raised by someone in their whānau or extended family. Often it means a child living with their grandparents – but could also be another family member like an aunt, uncle or older sibling. Whāngai is the traditional Māori practice of whānau care.
