On Saturday the 22nd January 2021 VOYCE Whakarongo Mai’s Poneke team Kaiwhakamana hosted a pool party for the tamariki and rangatahi of Ōtaki.
The turnout was amazing where over 30 whanau with their care experienced tamariki attended. The day consisted of lots of laughter, splashing, and a sausage sizzle! We are so lucky to have had such a nice sunny day where everyone who wanted to, could play outside on the waterslide or swim indoors! The VOYCE team are so grateful for the Ōtaki pools for their amazing hospitality. It was so nice to see the care experienced community be brought together, and the fact that a lot of the kids and caregivers knew each other already made it have a real community/family focused feel to the day. Thank you to the caregivers and rangatahi that came.
As always, a lot of our feedback from the young people were that they want more connection events and that they always like being fed! The ages varied in ages from 0-15 and the older kids were very good role models for the younger ones, with the early comers even pitching in to help with the setup. The older ones also helped the young ones with the duck game and were very inclusive in the pool games. Overall, it was a good turn out and an exciting way to end the school holidays and start the new year off with a bang!
Ma te wa Ōtaki until we connect again 😊
