Pizza and Poetry started last month and its growing from strength to strength. We get together here at the Voyce – Whakarongo Mai Ōtautahi office once a fortnight on a Tuesday. The whakaaro behind this kaupapa is to connect our care experienced community together through story telling and poetry. We hope that through Pizza and Poetry, our care experienced rangatahi will see that they have a story to tell; people want to hear them and that they can create and speak powerful, beautiful and honest things and that its worth listening too!
We started off with 3 attendees and now as we approach our 4th session we have grown to 8 rangatahi. Whilst we aren’t hitting big numbers, it has been an intentional move to not get too big as we focused on creating a safe space to share creatively and reflectively. The connection between our rangatahi is growing and deepening with every fortnightly session and it’s an honour to bear witness to it. The pizza has been yum but the poetry has been yummier! Our last session will be on the first week of June and we have bigger stages in sight, so watch this space
