On Friday 28th February 2020, VOYCE – Whakarongo Mai attended the Hurricanes Captain’s run with eight tamariki atawhai, and then on Saturday 29th February 2020, we had 20 tamariki and rangatahi atawhai got to see the Hurricanes vs Sunwolves game.

The tamariki and rangatahi atawahai had a blast, as did the VOYCE Staff and National Youth council. Our tamariki and rangatahi managed to get some signatures from the Hurricanes, and they loved every minute of this special outing. Some of their highlights were meeting TJ Perenara, being able to have a korero with the rest of the Hurricanes team and making new friendships.

For some of our tamariki this was their first-ever rugby game, while others were aspiring rugby players who are hoping that the next time around they get to train with their favourite team!

It was great for VOYCE – Whakarongo Mai to see some of the friendships that were formed from this Tūhono and we are looking forward to connecting with this Rōpū again soon.

Thank you Kids Can NZ for the rugby balls for the weekend, and a big THANK YOU to the wonderful Hurricanes team for their awesome support with our Tūhono.

Promise Three: Learning

Education as a gateway to dreams, rangatahi are supported to achieve aspirations.

Promise One: Care

Every tamaiti receives nurturing, protection, and provision, as any good parent would offer.

Promise Five: Voice

Tamariki and rangatahi are involved in decisions that affect them, and their voices are honoured.

Promise Four: Wellbeing

Timely, accessible, and culturally conscious health and mental health services are available to all taiohi.

Promise Two: Stability

Young people in care experience consistency, safety, and a sense of belonging.

Whānau care is where a child is being raised by someone in their whānau or extended family. Often it means a child living with their grandparents – but could also be another family member like an aunt, uncle or older sibling. Whāngai is the traditional Māori practice of whānau care.
