VOYCE held an event at Chipmunks Papanui in Christchurch, bringing together care-experienced tamariki for a fun afternoon of playing and connecting. VOYCE welcomed around 30 people to Chipmunks, taking the time to meet and play with the kids as well connect with parents and caregivers.

There were children ranging in age from 1-12 years of age. It was extra special to have three families make the trip up from Ashburton to spend the afternoon at the event. Caregivers appreciated the opportunity to meet each other and learn more about what VOYCE – Whakarongo Mai has to offer.

It was also a great opportunity to have some of our regional youth leaders on board volunteering and supporting the event. The children attending enjoyed playing with each other and meeting and making new friends. VOYCE provided some yummy afternoon tea and all the kids said that they could not wait to come back for another event.

Whānau care is where a child is being raised by someone in their whānau or extended family. Often it means a child living with their grandparents – but could also be another family member like an aunt, uncle or older sibling. Whāngai is the traditional Māori practice of whānau care.
