Our very first Ashburton Whānau Fun Day was a vibrant celebration of whanaungatanga and community spirit! Held in the stunning Ashburton Domain, this family-friendly afternoon was made possible thanks to an awesome partnership with Caring Families Aotearoa.

The event marked an exciting opportunity for us to connect with caregivers and tamariki in a new region where VOYCE hasn’t had a strong presence before. With face painting, delicious kai, good tunes, and loads of laughter, the vibe was all about fun and connection. A highlight was our VOYCE-led scavenger hunt, which encouraged tamariki to explore the local area, team up, and take on fun challenges together.

It was a relaxed, feel-good day — a chance to build deeper relationships and spark new ones across Mid-Canterbury. We’re excited to keep the momentum going and look forward to bringing more connection-focused events to the Ashburton community!

Whānau care is where a child is being raised by someone in their whānau or extended family. Often it means a child living with their grandparents – but could also be another family member like an aunt, uncle or older sibling. Whāngai is the traditional Māori practice of whānau care.
